Ms. Hagen has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary
Education from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota
and a Masters Degree from Viterbo in La Crosse. She has over 15
years of experience of working with children from preschool to age
12. Ms. Hagen has a strong interest in reading, history, and
technology. She is an avid Packer and Badger Fan. Her interests
include reading, taking walks in nature, crocheting, playing cards,
rooting for the sports teams especially the Badgers and Packers,
and traveling throughout Wisconsin.
Ms. Hagen's Week in a Peek for the Week of September
21st - 25th
Our school year is off to an outstanding start. Learning
rules and routines was our focus for the first few weeks. We have
been working on learning about building community through morning
meeting. Ask your child: what is your favorite part of morning
We have begun working hard on our class
PBIS goal of 10 stars as a class. They earn a star for each "5"
they earn in Music, Art, Phy Ed, and LMC. They can also earn extra
stars by having positive comments or compliments from others. We
are currently at 4 stars so far this year. I am proud of how much
they have accomplished so far this year. Please reinforce that you
expect the best behavior in all classes and for all teachers and
that you look forward to having the class meet their goal. When we
meet our goal, we will celebrate their accomplishment with a
special activity time to be determined. After we meet the first
goal, we will work toward an increased goal.
Reading: We will be working on
Unit 1 Week 2 in the Wonders Series. The Weekly Concept is "Trial
and Error" and the Essential Question is "What can lead us to
rethink an idea?" Our vocabulary words of the week are: accomplish,
anxious, assemble, decipher, distracted, navigate, options, and
retrace. Our genre will be realistic fiction. We are currently
reading the book "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E.
Frankweiler" during reading and intervention times. A question you
can ask your child is: "Who are the major characters and where did
their adventure take them? Where would they like to go on an
Spelling: We will be using the Unit 1, week
2 words which have the long vowel patterns. Words will be given out
on Tuesday and tested the following week.
Math: Students are working on Unit 7 that
deals with order of operations and coordinate points. They are
working on their math facts. Please have your students work on
memorizing their multiplication facts.
Health: We will continue in the health book
reading about friendship issues, peer pressure, and emotions
including uncomfortable feelings.
MAPS testing is being scheduled for September
29th and October 1st.
Parent-teacher conferences will be
October 20 and October 22, and the
morning only on the October 23rd. Forms will be sent home in
October to choose a day or days you are available.
