Ms. Hagen's Week in a Peek for the Week of September 21st - 25th

Notes:

Our school year is off to an outstanding start. Learning rules and routines was our focus for the first few weeks. We have been working on learning about building community through morning meeting. Ask your child: what is your favorite part of morning meeting?

We have begun working hard on our class PBIS goal of 10 stars as a class. They earn a star for each "5" they earn in Music, Art, Phy Ed, and LMC. They can also earn extra stars by having positive comments or compliments from others. We are currently at 4 stars so far this year. I am proud of how much they have accomplished so far this year. Please reinforce that you expect the best behavior in all classes and for all teachers and that you look forward to having the class meet their goal. When we meet our goal, we will celebrate their accomplishment with a special activity time to be determined. After we meet the first goal, we will work toward an increased goal.

Reading: We will be working on Unit 1 Week 2 in the Wonders Series. The Weekly Concept is "Trial and Error" and the Essential Question is "What can lead us to rethink an idea?" Our vocabulary words of the week are: accomplish, anxious, assemble, decipher, distracted, navigate, options, and retrace. Our genre will be realistic fiction. We are currently reading the book "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" during reading and intervention times. A question you can ask your child is: "Who are the major characters and where did their adventure take them? Where would they like to go on an adventure?

Spelling: We will be using the Unit 1, week 2 words which have the long vowel patterns. Words will be given out on Tuesday and tested the following week.

Math: Students are working on Unit 7 that deals with order of operations and coordinate points. They are working on their math facts. Please have your students work on memorizing their multiplication facts.

Health: We will continue in the health book reading about friendship issues, peer pressure, and emotions including uncomfortable feelings.

MAPS testing is being scheduled for September 29th  and October 1st.

Parent-teacher conferences will be  October 20 and October 22, and the morning only on the October 23rd. Forms will be sent home in October to choose a day or days you are available.
